Millian Byers Associates LLC was originally established as Millian Associates in 1993. The firm's first clients required due diligence involving communications, energy and consumer products in key regions abroad. Subsequent work led to positive relationships with organized labor in North America and abroad, and increasing involvement with issues of corporate social responsibility. In 2000, Ken Millian became Chairman and Jim Byers became President of Millian Byers Associates LLC.

Since its founding, the firm has operated as a network of professionals drawn from government, corporate, labor, academic, international relations and communications backgrounds. Associate teams are assembled to work on projects. Based in Washington DC, the firm works on U.S. state and national issues, and on international issues.
