Dr. Edward Rackley is a specialist in international relief operations, particularly in Africa. He recently served as an advisor to the British government on the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. During his tenure at DFID, the UK's Department for International Development, he coordinated the placement of over $200m in relief and recovery assistance, and conducted numerous field visits to evaluate the performance of dozens of NGOs and United Nations agencies receiving UK funding. Since 1988, Ed has worked throughout Africa for different UN agencies, NGOs, and governments in emergency relief and development. In his capacity as global health advisor to Millian Byers Associates, Ed has supported efforts to involve international labor and the pharmaceutical industry in joint programs to improve access to low-cost anti-AIDS drugs for sub-Saharan Africa. He has also conducted due diligence studies on new reproductive health technologies, such as microbicides, for the developing world.
